Imagen: Volta ao Algarve[:en]Caja Rural-Seguros RGA has combined three races at a time, with practically all of the riders in action. The protagonist in last stage of Volt ao Algarve was Julen Amézqueta, escaped in the queen stage and signing a meritorious eighth place in the hard slopes of Alto do Malhao. It is his first top-10 with the colors of the team, showing that his progression is going on. He was not the only one who shined, as Jonathan Lastra accompanied him on the numerous breakaway and entered the finish line in eleventh place.

The team has once again demonstrated on each race one of its hallmarks: combativity. Riders were emptied in each of the stages of the Tour of Oman, the Tour of Andalusia and the Volta ao Algarve, being very present in the breakaways, fighting for secondary classifications and with the prize of the mountain for Lluís Mas in Andalusia. A good end for the first racing block of the season.

The presence in breakaways has been a constant during the week. Almost every day there has been a team rider in the fight, with some coming back as Fabricio Ferrari and Nick Schultz in Oman, Álvaro Cuadros in Andalusia or Julen Amézqueta in Portugal. A collective work that did not have the reward of a stage victory, but it did raise Lluís Mas as the best climber on the Ruta del Sol, as well as being the best team rider in today’s time trial, with the triumph of David De la Cruz (SKY).

As for the fight for overall standings, the strong men have been Alex Aranburu -near top-20 in Oman-, Sergio Pardilla -18th in Andalusia- and Joaquim Silva -25th in Algarve-, who endured with the best in the mountain stages as far as they could, in three races with an important presence of riders and World Tour teams.

The professional team now faces a few weeks of competitive break until next March 14 when it will start at the Volta al Alentejo, again in Portugal. Meanwhile, the riders will continue with their preparation to arrive in the best conditions.

Julen Amézqueta: «When I saw that such a large leak was made, I knew I was going to reach the finish line. In the first step for Malhao it was not going very well, in fact I stayed behind, but then I was able to link again. The final climb I took it as a last effort and I did my best. Maybe I paid the effort of yesterday breakaway, but I’m happy and I’m leaving with a good taste. The preparation is on the right track, the sensations are good and now I only think about reaching the next goals well «.

Josemi Fernández (sports director): «We are very happy with our experience in Oman. On the one hand, being in three races at the same time is always difficult and demands the most of the riders, but on the other the boys have been up to the task, have done a great job and accumulated kilometers in a competition of a very high level. The goal is always to get a stage victory, but although it has been very complicated I think we are on the right track to achieve our goals. »

Eugenio Goikoetxea (sports director): «I think we have made a good Tour of Andalusia. We have been present every day in the race, we have got a nice KOM jersey with Lluís Mas, we have seen Nelson Soto fighting in the sprint with a third place that makes us optimistic for the following races and we hope to reach Catalonia in the better conditions. Lluís prize is an award for the whole team, which has been very good every day working for the control”.
