A few days later of his authoritarian triumph in the Circuito of Getxo, Jon Aberasturi has repeated victory in the town of Lerma, the end of the second stage of Vuelta a Burgos. It was a rising arrival, with 6% ramps and cobbled floor, where the Vitorian sprinter demonstrated his superiority by surpassing Giacomo Nizzolo (Dimension Data) in 2 seconds. Furthermore, Alex Aranburu was fifth in the stage and keeps his second place in the general classification.
This is the third success of the season for Aberasturi, the sixth for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, which has started very well this competitive Vuelta a Burgos, after Aranburu’s second place this Tuesday on the ascent to the castle. In addition, Sergei Chernetskii -4th- and Gonzalo Serrano -6th- also remain in leading positions of a race that this Thursday faces the hard arrival at Picón Blanco.
Jon Aberasturi: I placed myself the best I could before the final climb. Lastra did an incredible job, without him I do not know if I had won, possibly not, since he left me third in the last corner, behind Grosu and Nizzolo. At 200 meters from the finish I saw that I had good legs and, although I knew it could be long, I attacked. In the last 50 meters I looked back and I realized that I would win.
It was also a good day for Aranburu. We started with two picks, although it is true that I started with a bit of an advantage, since it was a short and explosive final. The team wrapped me perfect, they helped me a lot, to achieve this important victory in an agonizing ending.
